The title of the scene, "A Child is Born, a Son is Given," is outlined within the blood and evokes themes of both Christmas and Easter, according to artist John Zachary, who has been creating thought-provoking displays since 2007. Zachary told Allen in an interview that the acquittal of George Zimmerman, who fatally shot the unarmed teenager in 2012, "struck him as a worthy subject for Christmas comment." "There is no better time to reflect on gun violence than advent, when we celebrate the birth of Jesus," says a sign at the church. "Jesus was born into a state of total vulnerability as an innocent, unarmed child during a time of great violence much like Trayvon Martin." As families gather together at Christmas to celebrate, Zachary hopes to get them to think long and hard about their own blessings and privileges. He told Allen that many Christmas traditions of gifts reflect “privilege, and there’s a lot of people who don’t have that privilege. Maybe I should do something that’s provocative, that’s more in keeping with the teachings of Jesus.” Sharon Rhodes-Wickett, lead pastor at the church, told Allen that she finds this year's scene difficult to look at, due to its violence. "It's hard to look at a young man who's shot and bleeding to death," she said. "But even though I'm uncomfortable, that's the point. We have to take a look at the violence."

CHICAGO (STMW) – An 18-year-old man was charged with first-degree murder Thursday after police found a decapitated man early Christmas morning in the Hermosa neighborhood on the Northwest Side. Officers responding to a homicide call found the decapitated 41-year-old man about 2 a.m. Wednesday inside a basement apartment in the 2500 block of North Kildare Avenue, police said. UPDATE: Prosecutors say teen decapitated aunt's boyfriend as a Christmas 'present'. Police said they found a knife at the scene. An 18-year-old man, later identified as Alexis Valdez, was standing outside the building and taken in to custody that evening, police said. His relationship with the decapitated man was not immediately known. Valdez, of the 5000 block of West Drummond Place, faces one count of first-degree murder for allegedly murdering and dismembering the man, police said. He will appear for a bond hearing Friday. The man was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. He was identified as 41-year-old Silvestre Diaz-Hernandez and lived at the apartment. Area North detectives are conducting a homicide investigation

A 23-year-old  Canadian model knows something about "elf esteem" after having her ears surgically modified to look like the mythical creature's. In August, 2011, Melynda Moon decided to get an operation that would make her ears look like a character from her favorite book series, "Lord of the Rings." "The elegance of the elf ear is something I adore," she explained on a YouTube video documenting the surgery. Moon, who lives in Guelph, Ontario, said the decision to change her elf, er, herself, was a long time coming. She believes she was a fairy in a previous existence. "I have always been very close to nature.  Pointed ears are the most adorable thing, and I find the 'elven' attire is so elegant," she said, according to International Business Times. "I have always had fantasies about what it would be like to be something other than human, so I decided to change my appearance to look supernatural." The doctors who performed the $408 surgery skinned the tops of her ear cartilage. then skinned and cut pieces from the tips to form points. These tips were stitched together and removed a few weeks later after the ear skin was allowed to fuse, the Mirror reported. Moon said the treatment left her "a bit uncomfortable the day after" and her ears "were really swollen and sore with a slight burning sensation." But she said it's been worth it just for the reaction she gets from people.
"I have a handful of people assume I am dressed up because I have put on pointed ears." she said, the Daily Mail reported. "When I tell them they are real, they look pretty confused as if they are waiting for me to say 'just kidding' -- but I am not."

UTAH COP USES TASER ON NAKED MAN WHO BIT POLICE DOG

A Utah man faces a $25,000 arrest warrant on top of charges of lewdness, disorderly conduct charges and biting a police dog after being spotted causing a disturbance at a gas station. The Associated Press reported on Tuesday that 27-year-old Erasmo Guadalupe Garcia-Serna failed to appear in court on Tuesday, violating a Nov. 25 request from his attorney for more time to explore “possible mental health issues” before moving ahead with his case. Garcia-Serna first came into contact with authorities on Oct. 28, when police in West Valley, Utah, allegedly found him naked, yelling and trying to rip the gas hoses off the pumps. I said, ‘I’ve got a police dog, get on the ground, you’re gonna get bit by the dog,’” Officer Todd Zahlmann told KUTV-TV “He kept coming at me in a very threatening manner, so I released Lobo.” Lobo, Zahlmann’s K-9 partner, then charged the suspect and bit him in the chest. But Garcia-Serna then reportedly began biting the dog on the neck. “[Lobo] is now getting assaulted, so now I had to go in and help, to prevent him from getting hurt and injured,” Zahlmann said to KUTV. According to the AP, Zahlmann used his Taser against Garcia-Serna after kicking him three times to no effect. Garcia-Serna was arrested, but neither he nor the dog were critically injured. The Salt Lake City Tribune reported that the suspect was released from jail on Nov. 15 after promising to make the Nov. 25 hearing.

The victim of a sexual assault showed up to court to face her attacker. She was a goat. Katana Kitsao Gona, a 28-year-old man from Kenya, was sentenced to 10 years in jail after admitting he had sex with a goat, KTN Kenya reported Friday. The goat Gona was convicted of sexually abusing was present, brought there by prosecutors as evidence in the case. Gona was caught committing the crime last Monday, Prosecuting Chief Inspector Jimmy Kema said. The neighbor told prosecutors he went to urinate behind a bush, when he noticed clothes hanging on a tree.  He investigated and found Gona, naked, having sex with the goat. The victim was tied up to graze, according to The Star. The owner of the goat was alerted, along with other villagers who caught Gona engaging in the abuse. Police quickly took him into custody. A report from the district's veterinary officer noted that blood was found coming from its vulva, further evidence of sexual abuse.
Though Gona asked for a pardon in court, saying he had a disabled wife who depended on him, Magistrate Mrs. Muthoni Nzibe gave him the 10-year sentence -- a record sentence in that court for bestiality. Gona isn't the only busted goat abuser to make the news in recent months. In August, U.K. man Robert Newman served a six-week sentence after admitting he had sex with a goat. He also had to register as a sex offender.

ORLANDO, Florida – An Orlando man has been arrested on aggravated battery charges after police say he attacked his pregnant sister over chicken nuggets. Kareem Gordon, 28, was arrested on Sunday night after the fight with his 25-year-old sister, who says Gordon ate her chicken nuggets without permission. After arguing, Gordon’s sister went to her bedroom but Gordon followed behind, yelling “I will punch you down.”  Gordon then grabbed her by her neck, pushed her into a nightstand, making her fall to the ground, police said.

Kansas – The mother of a Kansas teen who says he was suspended over refusing to take off his purse says her son was discriminated against because girls at the school are allowed to wear them, KCTV.com reports. “I don’t think everyone should be treated differently,” Skylar Davis, the teen at Anderson County Senior-Junior School, told the station. “Everyone should have the same privileges.” Davis reportedly says he was called down to the assistant principal’s office and was told to remove the colorful Vera Bradley bag draped over his shoulder. He refused. His mother told the station he had been wearing the purse since August and says he was suspended.

Tanya Mount, an Army veteran, was informed by the Richmond County Board of Education police that she would be trespassing if she was stepped foot on McBean Elementary School’s property. “I feel like a criminal,” Mount told WRDW-TV. “I want to be heard. I want a public apology.” Mount said she was told by police that school principal Janina Dallas is scared of her because of her weapons permit.

WEST POINT — Two West Point graduates were married Saturday in the military academy’s first wedding between two men. Larry Choate III, class of 2009, married Daniel Lennox, class of 2007, before about 20 guests. Choate taught Sunday school at the US Military Academy’s Cadet Chapel and said he always thought of it as the place he would get married if he could. West Point hosted two same-sex weddings of women in late 2012, more than a year after New York legalized gay marriage. But Saturday’s wedding was the first time two men wed at West Point. “It’s maybe one more barrier that’s pushed over a little bit, or maybe one more glass ceiling that’s shattered that makes it easier for the next couple,” Choate said Friday. Choate, 27, and Lennox, 28, are no longer in the military and wore tuxedoes for the ceremony. Some of their guests were in uniform. Lennox is getting his Master’s degree in business administration at Harvard University. Choate is applying to Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. West Point has previously hosted two weddings between gay women. The pair did not know each other as cadets, but met later through a friend.

"A Tennessee couple made their first appearance in court Friday to face allegations that they sold their daughters — ages 5, 12, 15 and 17 — to create child pornography. Connie Sue McCall, 40, and her husband Ronnie Lee McCall, 61, were charged with the unspeakable crimes by a federal grand jury. Investigators said paperwork shows they were selling their children to take part in sex films and that the young girls were forced to perform sexual acts in a number of different places. The parents were also strung out on bath salts at the time, according to WATE-TV. The revelations were only discovered when investigators arrested the parents after discovering deplorable living conditions inside their home. “When the youngest child was taken in, several if not all of her teeth were rotted,” District Attorney Tony Clark said, according to WCYB-TV. “There was animal waste inside the home.” Debbie Dunn with the Johnson City Police Department added that one of the girls had both head and body lice, flea bits, ring worm and rotten teeth. “The amount of tooth decay, you can imagine, was extremely painful. She had black teeth, and holes in all the teeth, just really inexcusable,” Dunn said, according to WATE-TV. After questioning the children, Johnson City Police determined the kids had been sold to create child pornography. “There was money that changed hands between the individuals that were taking pictures and the parents,” Clark said. “The children said that they had been taken to various locations and performing sex acts with an adult.” The U.S. Attorney’s Office took charge of the case after learning one of the girls was allegedly taken to South Carolina to film a sex film. “When you have parents allegedly making money off their kids through pornography and exploitation, even after 20 years, it’s one of the worst cases I’ve ever seen,” 1st Judicial District Attorney General Tony Clark said. The girls are now in the custody of child protective services.

PANAMA CITY, Florida – A Panhandle woman who cut the head off a pet rabbit in front of her kids while high on meth won’t do prison time after pleading no contest Friday to felony counts of animal cruelty and child abuse. Tina Sandlin, 36, of Southport has been in jail since she was arrested Sept. 25 last year, and when she’s released she will be going straight to an inpatient drug-treatment facility. Judge Elijah Smiley sentenced her to five years on probation, the first 18 months of which will be drug offender probation. Sandlin will be eligible for early termination of her probation after 30 months if she meets her requirements, which include a provision that she have no contact with her husband. She also is not allowed to have contact with her children until she has been released from the treatment facility and been sober for 90 days; at that point, a counselor for the children will determine the circumstances of any visitation.

MISSOULA, Mont. — A newlywed wife was charged Monday with killing her husband by pushing him off a cliff in Glacier National Park during an argument just a week after they got married. Charging documents suggest Jordan Linn Graham, 22, was having second thoughts about getting married around the time the body of her husband, Cody Lee Johnson, 25, of Kalispell, was discovered. Graham told an FBI agent that she and her husband had been arguing July 7 as they walked in the Loop Trail area of the park. At one point, she turned to walk away, but Johnson grabbed her arm, she said. She turned around, removed his hand from her arm and "due to her anger, she pushed Johnson with both hands in the back, and as a result, he fell face first off the cliff," an affidavit states. Johnson was reported missing July 8 when he failed to show up for work. Graham later reported that she had spotted his body. Graham made an initial court appearance Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah C. Lynch on a charge of second-degree murder. She is currently in custody. Her attorney, public defender Andrew Nelson, declined to comment. Johnson's family and friends were relieved after calling for an investigation since his body was recovered July 12. "Two months probably isn't very long for an FBI investigation, but when you're waiting for answers, that's a lifetime," family friend Tracey Maness said. Maness said Johnson was excited about his wedding and in love with Graham. Graham initially told investigators that Johnson left their house late July 7 with unidentified friends in a dark-colored car with Washington state license plates. That night, she texted a friend and said she was about to talk to Johnson about her reservations about having gotten married the previous weekend. The friend, identified only by initials, told the FBI about receiving the text from Graham just before 9 p.m. in which Graham said, "Oh well, I'm going to talk to him." The friend responded, "I'll pray for you guys." Graham replied, "But dead serious if u don't hear from me at all again tonight, something happened." Another friend said Graham reported receiving an email July 10 saying Johnson had left with three friends, went hiking, had fallen and was dead. The next day, Graham reported to park officials that she had spotted Johnson's body. A ranger thought that was unusual, but Graham explained, "It was a place he wanted to see before he died," authorities said. Graham was interviewed July 16 and acknowledged lying about her husband's death, authorities said.

UK – A diabetic mother-of-two was ordered to leave a McDonald’s restaurant for injecting herself with insulin – after staff accused  her of being on drugs. Sarah Pike, 36, ordered a Big Mac from the fast-food chain last Friday and administered insulin to reduce her blood sugar level before eating her meal. When staff spotted her injecting herself they told her to leave the premises because they believed she was using hard drugs. Mrs Pike, of Banbury, Oxfordshire, said:  ‘This was probably the most humiliating experience of my life and something like  this has never happened to me before. ‘I was shocked. I am Type 1 so I need to use  insulin before eating meals each day, and I kept saying the pen could not be  tampered with but they wouldn’t believe me.

But the impromptu meals on wheels earned the mother a ticking off from local police.

Ginsburg expressed excitement about conducting the wedding ceremony of Kennedy Center President Michael M. Kaiser and economist John Roberts (not related to U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts). “I think it will be one more statement that people who love each other and want to live together should be able to enjoy the blessings and the strife in the marriage relationship,” Ginsburg said. “It won’t be long before there will be another [officiated by a Supreme Court justice],” she added. “I can’t imagine someone I’d rather be married by [than Ginsburg],” Kaiser, who is a close friend of Ginsburg, reportedly said. The Washington Post notes that Ginsburg is also scheduled to officiate another same-sex wedding in September.

JUDGE NEEDS TO BE IN JAIL

Montana – A Montana judge on Wednesday stood by his decision to send a former teacher to prison for 30 days for raping a 14-year-old girl who later killed herself. District Judge G. Todd Baugh (picture) sentenced former Billings Senior High School teacher Stacey Rambold to 15 years, then suspended all but 31 days and gave him credit for one day already served. In handing down the sentence Monday, Baugh said the teenage victim was “older  than her chronological age” and had as much control of the situation as the teacher who raped her. Rambold was charged in October 2008 with three counts of sexual intercourse without consent after authorities alleged he had an ongoing sexual relationship with Cherice Moralez, starting the previous year when she was 14. Moralez killed  herself in 2010 at age 16 while the case was pending, and the girl’s mother, Auleia Hanlon, said her daughter’s relationship with Rambold was a “major  factor.”

This story carried the headline: “Obama clarifies sex ed views at Benedictine.” "Nobody's suggesting that kindergartners are going to be getting information about sex in the way that we think about it,” Obama is quoted as telling the children. "If they ask a teacher 'where do babies come from,' that providing information that the fact is that it's not a stork is probably not an unhealthy thing. Although again, that's going to be determined on a case by case basis by local communities and local school boards." To further clarify Obama’s position on sex ed for kindergartner’s, Obama’s campaign spokesman, Bill Burton, pointed MSNBC to the “curriculum for those in kindergarten” produced by the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS). This curriculum suggested discussing same-sex relationships—in non-graphic terms--with kindergartners. According to a report published yesterday by the CBS affiliate in Chicago, the new sex education program mandated in Chicago public schools will—like  the SIECUS curriculum—instruct kindergartners about same-sex relationships.

A Harvard Study titled "Would Banning Firearms Reduce Murder and Suicide?" looks at figures for "intentional deaths" throughout continental Europe and juxtaposes them with the U.S. to show that more gun control does not necessarily lead to lower death rates or violent crime.

Because the findings so clearly demonstrate that more gun laws may in fact increase death rates, the study says that "the mantra that more guns mean more deaths and that fewer guns, therefore, mean fewer deaths" is wrong.

For example, when the study shows numbers for Eastern European gun ownership and corresponding murder rates, it is readily apparent that less guns to do not mean less death. In Russia, where the rate of gun ownership is 4,000 per 100,000 inhabitants, the murder rate was 20.52 per 100,000 in 2002. That same year in Finland, where the rater of gun ownership is exceedingly higher--39,000 per 100,000--the murder rate was almost nill, at 1.98 per 100,000.

Looking at Western Europe, the study shows that Norway "has far and away Western Europe's highest household gun ownership rate (32%), but also its lowest murder rate."

And when the study focuses on intentional deaths by looking at the U.S. vs Continental Europe, the findings are no less revealing. The U.S., which is so often labeled as the most violent nation in the world by gun control proponents, comes in 7th--behind Russia, Estonia, Lativa, Lithuania, Belarus, and the Ukraine--in murders. America also only ranks 22nd in suicides. 

The murder rate in Russia, where handguns are banned, is 30.6; the rate in the U.S. is 7.8.

The authors of the study conclude that the burden of proof rests on those who claim more guns equal more death and violent crime; such proponents should "at the very least [be able] to show a large number of nations with more guns have more death and that nations that impose stringent gun controls have achieved substantial reductions in criminal violence (or suicide)." But after intense study the authors conclude "those correlations are not observed when a large number of nations are compared around the world."

In fact, the numbers presented in the Harvard study support the contention that among the nations studied, those with more gun control tend toward higher death rates.

New Mexico's top court ruled that citizens in the heavily Hispanic state who don't speak English still have the right to serve on a jury. The New Mexico Supreme Court cautioned  trial courts and lawyers on Monday that this is in fact a right enshrined in the state constitution to all people, even non-English speakers. The court issued the admonition in a unanimous ruling that upholds an Albuquerque man's convictions for murder and other crimes in the 2004 bludgeoning death of his girlfriend and a subsequent armed robbery and stabbing. Michael Anthony Samora's appeal argued that his convictions should be reversed because a Bernalillo County judge excused a Spanish-speaking prospective juror who had trouble understanding English. The Supreme Court said it agrees with that argument but also said Samora's defense needed to object during the trial but didn't.
The ruling told trial judges and lawyers that they "have a shared responsibility to make every reasonable effort to protect the right of our non-English speaking citizens to serve on New Mexico juries." The ruling said the prospective juror's dismissal violated a constitutional provision that said a citizen's right to vote, hold office or serve on a jury cannot be restricted "on account of religion, race, language or color, or inability to speak, read or write the English or Spanish languages ..."

Kevin Keller, the only gay character in the Archie Comics universe, gets his first on-panel smooch in the latest issue of his series offshoot “Kevin Keller,” released Wednesday. Things take a turn for the controversial when a local mom spots Keller in the middle of his chaste peck (this is Archie Comics, after all), exclaiming: “Did I just see that with my own eyes? Young man, there are children in this place! Your behavior is unacceptable!” Creator Dan Parent told the Associated Press that he was inspired to write the story line after One Million Moms launched a boycott against an issue of the comic depicting Keller’s wedding. Parent called the plot a “playful poke” at the group’s outrage.
Keller’s sexuality makes his kiss a major first, but on-panel displays of affection are pretty rare for any character in the long-running, old fashioned series. “There aren’t that many on-panel kisses in the pages of Archie, but you often see the lipstick on Archie’s face afterward,” said publisher and co-CEO Jon Goldwater.

DOG EATS PARALYZED MAN'S TESTICLE

Arkansas – A Trumann man awoke Monday morning to find his dog eating one of his testicles. The man, who has not been identified, is paralyzed and told police he has ‘no feeling from the waist down.’ Around 7:45 a.m. Monday he was awakened by a burning pain in his mid-section, according to the initial police report. The 39-year-old man told police he sleeps in the nude and noticed the dog was between his legs. He also noticed the small, white, fluffy dog  had blood on its muzzle and front feet. When the man looked further, according to the report, he noticed that the dog had eaten one of his testicles.

London – A chef at a mice-infested wedding cake shop told inspectors droppings found in his ingredients were chocolate sprinkles, a court heard.  The filthy basement of Bake & Cake in Edgware Road, central London, was covered in rodent mess alongside discarded food, piles of sawdust and filthy machinery. When an inspector found icing for cakes embedded with mouse droppings, the chef insisted it was actually chocolate vermicelli used for buns. Inspectors from Westminster Council raided the premises on July 17 last year and immediately discovered a series mouse  infestation.
‘She pulled out trays in the cooling rack and found mouse droppings embedded in the circular disk used to add writing to cakes’, said prosecutor Marie-Claire Amuah.

Florida – A daycare teacher in Florida was fired because she, of all things, put a fire out at her school.
Michelle Hammack worked at Little Temples Childcare facility in Arlington, Florida. While her students were napping, she smelled something burning in the school. Naturally, she went to check on the problem. “I just leaned over and peeked around and there was a fire in the oven,” Hammack said. “I ran in there and opened it to try to put it out, and the fire alarm started going off.” But instead of being applauded for her handling of the fire, Hammack was fired. “I fired her only because she left her room,” owner Olga Rozhaov said. “Even though children are sleeping, the teachers are supposed to be there.”

Al Sharpton provokes a racial tone every time he speaks, and his evil mantra seems to stimulate division when there should be none! Zimmerman initiated a bad situation, however, Trayvon provoked the finale.

A Texas man was arrested after police said he seriously injured a baby because the infant wouldn't let him sleep. Julian Garza, 19, was left to watch his girlfriend's 8-month-old baby son on Monday, but when the mother returned home, she noticed that the infant was not well, San Antonio Police spokesman Officer Robert Zuniga told The Huffington Post in a phone interview Thursday. According to a police affidavit obtained by KSAT, the baby suffered what doctors later determined to be a "massive skull fracture" while in the man's care. Garza told police that he was angered when the child wouldn't let him sleep, and that he had forcefully thrown his arms up in the air, causing the infant boy to hit his head on a window sill. According to the affidavit, Garza said he knew the child was injured but did not seek treatment because he was afraid of getting in trouble. Zuniga told HuffPost that the injury to the child was found to be inconsistent with Garza's description of the events. Zuniga would not comment further on the nature of the injuries due to the ongoing investigation by the SAPD special victim's unit, but KENS reported the child was "tossed like a rag doll" against the window. Garza was arrested and charged with "injury to child with serious bodily injury," and was booked on $30,000 bond.  Neighbors told KENS that they were horrified by the situation. "Kids are precious," neighbor James Hernandez told the station. "They shouldn't be hurt."

A Crossville, Tenn., man claims a woman swam nude in his pool while her husband burglarized his home, according to the Crossville Chronicle. The 54-year-old man, who did not wish to be identified, said the couple, who he knew from the neighborhood, visited his house on Saturday afternoon. The woman asked if she could swim in his pool. The victim told her she could and she then reportedly asked her husband to go back to their house and grab her cigarettes. The woman allegedly asked if she could swim nude, which the victim said was alright with him. As the victim looked on, the woman allegedly swam for 20 minutes before drying off and leaving. "I escorted her outside and invited her to church, but she said she didn't have time for that," the victim told WKRN. After she left, the victim realized his home had been burglarized. The woman's husband allegedly stole $1,195 worth of items from the home, including a handgun, jewelry and medication. Police have launched an investigation into the incident. "The two suspects have been identified, but have not been arrested," WKRN reports.

Shortly after 8 a.m., motorists began dialing 9-1-1 after spotting a man with blood on his shoulder running in and out of traffic near mile marker 121, police tell the Free Lance Star. Responding officers were able to locate the ear on the shoulder of the road a short time later. Police have charged Floyd Warren, 31 of New York City, with malicious wounding in connection to the incident

Soccer Insanity: Brazilian Fans Storm Field, Stone Referee to Death....

SAO PAULO (TheBlaze/AP) — Police say enraged spectators invaded a soccer field, stoned the referee to death, and quartered his body after he fatally stabbed a player. The Public Safety Department of the state of Maranhao says in a statement that it all started when referee Otavio da Silva expelled player Josenir Abreu from a game. The two got into a fist fight, then da Silva took out a knife and stabbed Abreu, who died on his way to the hospital. The statement says Abreu’s friends and relatives immediately “rushed into the field, stoned the referee to death and quartered his body.”

Local news media say the spectators also decapitated Silva and stuck his head on a stake in the middle of the field. Police have arrested one suspect. The incident occurred last Sunday, according to Deadspin, and reports have surfaced today. More from Deadspin:They reportedly tied up the referee, beat him, stoned him, lynched him, and then quartered him. When they finished, they cut off his head and placed it on a stake in the center of the field. So far, just one man, 27-year-old Luis Moraes Souza, has been arrested for the crime, and authorities are searching for two more. Valter Costa, the chief of police in Maranhão’s town of Santa Ines, spoke in a statement. “Reports of witnesses have indicated some people that were in place at the time of the fact,” he said. “We will identify and hold accountable all those involved. A crime will never justify another. Actions like this do not collaborate with the legality of a state law.”

It’s not clear if other family members got aboard the presidential jet this morning. Diplomat And Wife Allegedly Called 'Terrorists' After Breastfeeding Incident:
"A New York police officer has allegedly compared a diplomat's breastfeeding wife to a terrorist. According to the New York Post, Tom Neijens, his wife, Roseline Remans and their 4-month-old daughter, Luka, had lunch at a country club in White Plains on June 8th. Remans began to nurse her daughter at the table, then was asked by a staff member to continue in the bathroom. Soon, the police arrived. A detective told the couple that other members feared they might be terrorists because of Neijen's black backpack and because, “In Sri Lanka, babies are used by terrorists.” The family was escorted out of the club. Though breastfeeding is universally accepted as the healthiest option for baby, stories like Remans' are unfortunately not that unusual. The Huffington Post has reported on over a dozen incidents of moms who were shamed for breastfeeding in public -- at Target, Applebees, Hollister, in court, on Facebook -- the list goes on. Last February, a pastor in Georgia compared a mother to a stripper when she nursed her child in church. Forty-five states allow mothers to legally nurse in public, but that doesn't mean that society's perception of the act has caught up to the law. In April, mom and breastfeeding activist, Katharine McKinney, blogged about the very issue. "If you don't support breastfeeding in public, you don't support breastfeeding," she wrote. She then debunked four commonly heard reasons women shouldn't nurse in public.
Like Remans, moms often hear that they should nurse in the restroom. To that, McKinney says: Mothering is already an isolating, exhausting business and to tell a woman that for several hours a day she has to be sequestered is dehumanizing ... It's hard enough to be a mother without being told a laundry list of ways and places you can do something as simple as feeding your child without offending the sensitive masses. Especially when seeing something over and over is the best way to normalize it.

Pakistan – Two teenage sisters have been murdered in Pakistan after they were accused of tarnishing their family’s name by making a video of themselves dancing in the rain. The girls, aged 15 and 16, are seen running around in traditional dress with two other younger children outside their bungalow in the town of Chilas, in the northern region of Gilgit. The sisters, named as Noor Basra and Noor  Sheza, appear to break into dance and one even flashes a smile at the camera. Last Sunday the girls were shot alongside their mother in their home by five gunmen. Police are investigating whether the attack was arranged by the girls’ step-brother, named as Khutore, who allegedly wanted to  ‘restore the family’s honor’ according to The Sunday  Times.

Victor Joseph Espinoza, a Santa Ana, Calif., man with ties to Mexican gangs, received a 32-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to false imprisonment charges stemming from his attempted kidnapping of a 10-year-old boy in October 2012. CBS Los Angeles reports that charges of street terrorism and a sentencing enhancement for gang activity were dropped in exchange for Espinoza's guilty plea. According to LAist, Espinoza approached his victim, who was on his way to soccer practice, and asked the boy if he'd liked to see his gang tattoo. Witnesses claim Espinoza then grabbed his victim and sniffed his arm, but that the boy managed to break free and run away. The boy's soccer coach later confronted Espinoza, tackled him and tried to restrain him. "The little boy came crying at me, saying that man wanted to take him. He said that he grabbed him and he started smelling him," the coach, who wished to remain anonymous, told ABC Los Angeles at the time. The 425 pound suspect made news in October after his distinctive mug shot went viral. Santa Ana police also released infrared video of Espinoza hiding in a yard moments before his arrest. Although the details of the attempted kidnapping skew bizarre, police did not take any chances in pursuing Espinoza. Santa Ana police spokesman Antony Bertanga described the suspect to ABC News as an "old school, old time gangster" with more than 60 prior arrests over 30 years, and a rap sheet that includes drug possession, assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder."

Coy Mathis Case: Colorado Civil Rights Division Rules In Favor Of Transgender 6-Year-Old In Bathroom Dispute....
DENVER — Colorado officials say a suburban Colorado Springs school district discriminated against a 6-year-old transgender girl by preventing her from using the girls' bathroom, in what advocates described as the first such ruling in the next frontier in civil rights. Coy Mathis's family raised the issue after school officials at Eagleside Elementary in Fountain said the first-grader could use restrooms in either the teachers' lounge or in the nurse's office, but not the girls' bathroom. Coy's parents feared she would be stigmatized and bullied. On Monday, the Mathis family and its lawyers celebrated the ruling on the steps of the state capitol. Coy, dressed in a glittering tank top, jeans and pink canvas sneakers, ran around a towering blue spruce tree as her mother spoke to reporters. "Her future will be better if we get to this place where this is nothing to be ashamed of," Kathryn Mathis said, noting the family hadn't sought a civil rights battle but was happy for the Colorado Division of Civil Rights' ruling.How do you know if someone is really thinking this way or not," Staver said, adding that Coy is too young to decide on such a different identity. "How do you know if someone just wants to go in the restroom and be a peeping Tom?

 

Coy was born a triplet with two sisters and identified as a girl before she began attending elementary school in Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8, an area heavy with military personnel near an Army base. Her father, Jeremy, is an ex-Marine. At 5 months, she took a pink blanket meant for her sister Lily. Later, she showed little interest in toy cars and boy clothes with pictures of sports, monsters and dinosaurs on them. She refused to leave the house if she had to wear boy clothes. After her parents accepted her identity, they said, Coy come out of her shell. Coy was diagnosed with "gender identity disorder" – a designation the American Psychiatric Association removed last year from its list of mental ailments. The removal reflected the growing medical consensus that identification as another gender cannot be changed. The Mathises said they feared the district's decision would stigmatize Coy, who was reduced to tears when her teacher briefly put her in the boys' line. When she came home, according to legal records, she cried to her parents: "Not even my teachers know I'm a girl!" When Coy rose to first grade, the district forbade her from using the girls' restroom. The Mathises filed their complaint in February. The civil rights board's director, Steven Chavez, found in a legal determination issued June 18 that the district's solution of letting Coy use staff bathrooms smacked of "separate but equal" and clearly violated her rights. Since they filed their complaint, the Mathises have moved to the Denver suburb of Aurora because of health problems suffered by another daughter. They said they hope the ruling will make it easier for Coy to start at a new school without worrying about which bathroom she can use. Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 declined to discuss the case Monday. The district, however, can seek arbitration or a public trial, said Cory Everett-Lozano, a spokeswoman with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies. Silverman said transgendered civil rights are largely where gay rights were in the 1980s. He said progress in gay rights has made it easier for transgendered people to dare to fight in court. Coy, he said, is such an example. Her parents grew up during a more tolerant era for sexual rights and recognized that they should not try to force her to be a boy. "That has allowed children like Coy to make their voices heard," Silverman said.

Florida – An Orange County woman was arrested on aggravated child abuse charges after witnesses say she shocked her child with a stun gun for making oatmeal incorrectly. Melissa Heale, who works for the Orlando Health and Rehab Center, denied that she purposely shocked the child, an arrest affidavit said. The child, whose name, age and gender were redacted from the report, and witnesses who talked to deputies had a different, more violent account of the incident as well as stories of ongoing instances of abuse despite a lack of pervious arrests.

WE REALLY NEED TO AUDIT THE IRS

The IRS sent more than $46 million in tax refunds to 23,994 “unauthorized” alien workers who all listed the same address in Atlanta, Ga., in 2011, according to an audit report by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA). However, the Atlanta address that received millions of dollars in refunds was not the only address apparently housing thousands of “unauthorized” aliens. In fact, it wasn’t even the only address in Atlanta that was claiming such a situation. The TIGTA audit report, published last year at the request of members of Congress, revealed 10 addresses in the U.S. that were issued anywhere from 1,846 to 23,994 tax refunds each. Four of those 10 addresses were located in Atlanta.

Other locations on the IG’s Top Ten list for singular addresses that were theoretically used simultaneously by thousands of unauthorized alien workers, included an address in Oxnard, Calif, where the IRS sent 2,507 refunds worth $10,395,874; an address in Raleigh, North Carolina, where the IRS sent 2,408 refunds worth $7,284,212; an address in Phoenix, Ariz., where the IRS sent 2,047 refunds worth $5,558,608; an address in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., where the IRS sent 1,972 refunds worth $2,256,302; an address in San Jose, Calif., where the IRS sent 1,942 refunds worth $5,091,027; and an address in Arvin, Calif., where the IRS sent 1,846 refunds worth $3,298,877.

A 50-year-old St. George man is in trouble after he allegedly found a female neighbor unconscious on her front porch and allegedly claimed he had sex with her to try to warm her. Rodger William Kelly told police he inserted his penis inside the unconscious 29-year-old on May 19 because “he was trying to save her life,” according to court documents. “He said he did place it inside of her to try and get her temperature up,” police wrote in a probable cause statement filed in 5th District Court. Police told Kelly that his actions amounted to rape. He was charged Monday with one count of first-degree felony rape.

UK – A mother of two has revealed she drinks people’s blood vampire style sometimes drinking nearly two liters a month. Julia Caples, 45, has been sucking the blood of willing donors for more than  30 years. She meets fellow vampire enthusiasts at a local occult and oddities store where she cuts them with a pagan-style knife before lapping up their blood. She believes it keeps her young and vigorous, just like the ageless bloodsuckers from movies such as Twilight.
