CAN WE SAY A BIT EXTREME COUNTER MEASURES

TheBlaze/AP) — A Houston police officer shot and killed a one-armed, one-legged man in a wheelchair Saturday inside a group home after police say the double amputee threatened the officer and aggressively waved a metal object that turned out to be a pen. Police spokeswoman Jodi Silva said the man cornered the officer in his wheelchair and was making threats while trying to stab the officer with the pen. At the time, the officer did not know what the metal object was that the man was waving, Silva said. She said the man came “within inches to a foot” of the officer and did not follow instructions to calm down and remain still. “Fearing for his partner’s safety and his own safety, he discharged his weapon,” Silva told The Associated Press. Police did not immediately release the name of the man who was killed. They had been called to the home after a caretaker there called and reported that the man in wheelchair was causing a disturbance. The owner of the group home, John Garcia, told the Houston Chronicle that the man had a history of mental illness and had been living at the house about 18 months. Garcia said the man had told him that he lost a leg above the knee and all of one arm when he was hit by a train. “He sometimes would go off a bit, but you just ignore it,” Garcia told the newspaper

I LOVE YOU DADDY

Ohio – It was a dark secret. The kind that destroys lives, devastates families and decimates faith. Nobody shared it with Valerie Spruill while her husband was alive. For years after his death, she heard bits of the story. It was something about an absentee father, something about her husband. None of it made sense, she said. That’s not until her uncle finally told her what no one else had: She had unknowingly married the father she never knew. Spruill met and married her husband-father in Akron and settled in Doylestown, a working class suburb of about 2,300. It was her second marriage. Spruill was a nice man, a good provider. He was kind to her three children from her previous marriage. “We had a good life,” she said.

ANOTHER MAN WHO LOVED HIS WIFE

California – In a taped interview played in court, a Southern California chef on trial for allegedly killing his wife told police he slow cooked her body then dumped it out as kitchen waste.
Dawn Viens disappeared in 2009 and police identified her husband David – the chef at the former Thyme Cafe in Torrance – as a prime suspect. In 2011, investigators dug up the Thyme Cafe, which Dawn co-owned, searching for her body. But in a taped interview played in court, David Viens seemed to tell police why her remains may never be found. “I took some, some things like weights that we use and I put them on the top of her body, and I just slowly cooked it and I ended up cooking her for four days,” Viens said on tape.

ALMOST LOST HIS HEAD OVER THE LOVE OF HIS WIFE

EVERETT, Washington – A Washington state woman accused of trying to decapitate her sleeping husband with an electric saw was convicted of attempted murder. Jurors needed only about three hours to reach a verdict in the trial of Renee Bishop-McKean of Everett. They also convicted the 44-year-old woman of first-degree assault for hitting the man in the head with a hatchet and mallet.
The jury was told the noise of the saw woke the victim and he fought his wife off. He was treated for cuts and scrapes. Bishop-McKean told police an attacker must have entered the home through an open window, found the saw and attacked her husband.

UNPATRIOTIC WAL-MART

Florida – Wal-Mart has apologized to a school choir after management at a Florida store refused to allow them to perform “God Bless America” inside the store on Sept. 11. WSVN reports choir director Ana Conner’s group of 75 students at Coconut Palm Elementary in Pembroke Pines was scheduled to sing inside their local WalMart on the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorism attacks as a tribute to the victims. However, Conner says when she and her students arrived, the manager refused to allow the children to sing. Principal Terri Thelmas told the Sun Sentinel that in an “effort to right a wrong,” the students went outside and performed in the parking lot. The students and parents were already heading to their cars when the police arrived, saying they were responding to reports of a “flash mob.”

STRANGE JUDGE

Oklahoma – Larry Allen Austin married his long-time girlfriend, but instead of wearing a tuxedo for the occasion, his wedding attire consisted of a state-issued orange jumpsuit and matching rubber slippers. Austin, 29, of Oklahoma City, was sentenced by District Judge Jerry D. Bass to four years in federal prison on a firearm charge, but minutes later, the same judge performed a marriage ceremony to unite the new inmate and Dustie Trojack, 31, in holy matrimony. The blushing bride’s two children were in attendance at the courthouse. The nuptials were sealed with a kiss before Austin was taken away by federal authorities. For Judge Bass, sentencing a man to prison and then officiating his wedding was a unique experience in his 14 years on the bench.

CAN'T PRAY OVER THE ROSARY IN SCHOOL

LOVELAND, Colorado – A student is questioning whether his faith or his fashion is under fire at his high school in Loveland. Thompson Valley High School officials have confiscated his rosary beads twice since school started three weeks ago. And he says they never told him, or his family, why.
The junior says he wears rosary beads to protect himself from harm. But his school district thinks the religious necklace will harm students. “That’s typically not what we want for a safe environment for school,” says Thompson Valley School District spokesperson Margaret Crespo.

COMPROMISED TROOPS

Egypt – U.S. Marines defending the American embassy in Egypt were not permitted by the State Department to carry live ammunition, limiting their ability to respond to attacks like those this week on the U.S. consulate in Cairo. Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson “did not permit U.S. Marine guards to carry live ammunition,” according to multiple reports on U.S. Marine Corps blogs spotted by Nightwatch. “She neutralized any U.S. military capability that was dedicated to preserve her life and protect the US Embassy.” U.S. officials have yet to confirm or comment on the reports. While Marines are typically relied on to defend U.S. territory abroad, such as embassies, these reports indicate that the Obama administration was relying on Egypt’s new Muslim Brotherhood-backed government to ensure American security, a move observers are questioning as violence in Cairo continues to rage.
THIS ACTION EXISTS NUMEROUS LOCATIONS IN COMPROMISED SITUATIONS, IT IS APPALLING THAT THE MILITARY CONTINUES THIS PRACTICE IN THIS TURMOILED WORLD.

PORK CHOPS

ST. LOUIS, Missouri – John Cunningham (Picture) of Jennings used a shotgun to settle a fight with his uncle over pork steaks, police say. Cunningham, 43, of the 2000 block of Wedgewood Drive in Jennings, was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Lessie E. Lowe, 44, the maternal uncle of Cunningham, police say. The shooting stemmed from an argument between Lowe and Cunningham over whether the cuts of meat they were planning to cook were pork steaks or pork chops, police say. Cunningham said they were pork steaks, police said. Lowe disagreed. After the argument became physical, the two had to be separated by someone else in the home, police say. Cunningham went to another part of the home, grabbed a shotgun and shot Lowe, police said.

STUPID DEMOCRATS!!!!

Charoltte, North Carolina – The backdrop for a Democratic National Convention tribute to U.S. military veterans was apparently a fleet of Russian warships. The event occurred on the final night of the convention when retired Adm. John Nathman paid tribute to veterans, in front of a gigantic screen that showed what appears to be ships from the Russian Federation Navy, according to The Navy Times. At least two experts told the publication they were certain the ships were Russian and that the backdrop image appears to be a composite photo that includes U.S. trainer jets flying overhead. The background shows four ships with radar designs apparently not used in the U.S. fleet.
Navy veteran Rob Barker reportedly detected the apparent mistake and notified The Navy Times.

SOCIALIZED MEDICINE

Sweden – A 72-year-old man having a tumour removed from his kidney died after the chief anesthetist and nurse took a lunch break in the middle of the surgery. The 72-year-old went under anesthetic at 10.45am on the day of the operation. At noon sharp, the head anesthetist left the operating room to go for lunch. Fifteen minutes later, the head nurse anesthetist also left the patient and went for lunch. No other anesthetist was called in to take over responsibility for the doctor who was on his lunch break. And while another nurse was brought in to cover for the nurse anesthetist, the nurse who arrived came from the orthopedic ward and wasn’t familiar with the respirator to which the 72-year-old was attached. When the doctor and the primary nurse anesthetist returned to the operating room, they discovered that the patient’s respirator had been turned off, leaving him without oxygen for approximately eight minutes.

INSANE???? MAYBE NOT

Turkey – A woman in Turkey is awaiting trial after beheading a man who she says raped her repeatedly for months and is the father of her unborn child. Her lawyer says the woman killed the man to protect her honor. Nevin Yildirim, a 26-year-old mother of two, lives in a small village in southwestern Turkey. She said the man, Nurettin Gider, began the attacks a few days after her husband left in January for a seasonal job in another town, according to a source close to the case. Yildirim said Gider threatened her with a gun and said he would kill her children, ages 2 and 6, if she made any noise, according to the source. That was the first of repeated rapes over the next eight months, the source said. Witnesses described Yildirim walking into the village square, carrying the man’s head by his hair, blood dripping on the ground.

ONLY FOUR YEARS FOR MAN'S WORST NIGHTMARE

Australia – A woman who chopped off her ex partner’s penis to stop him impregnating other women will serve less than four years in jail. Jian Chen was sentenced to a minimum of three years and nine months in jail after pleading guilty to the manslaughter of her ex partner Xian Peng at her North Ryde home in February 2011. The court accepted the guilty plea to the lesser charge, and withdrew the murder charge, because Chen was suffering from an “abnormality of the mind” due to mental illness and the belief Peng was going to take their child to China. Chen “laced” Peng’s soup dinner with sleeping tablets and then castrated him when he woke several hours later.

EATING MY PEANUT BUTTER

COLUMBIA, South Carolina – Police in Columbia say it was easy to find the suspect in the burning of a pickup truck at a Columbia car dealership. He was sitting on another vehicle, eating from a jar of peanut butter as he watched the blaze. Authorities said 20-year-old Cody Allen has been charged with third-degree arson and malicious injury to property. Firefighters were called to the Dick Smith dealership around 4 a.m. When they arrived, authorities say they found the truck on fire and several other vehicles with their windows broken out.
