"Iran boasted this week it blasted a live monkey into space – but today it seems that was just a lot of hot air. Footage on state television before the mission showed a grey primate wearing a mini space suit and strapped into a pod. Iran claimed the rocket Pishgam reached a height of 72 miles before returning to Earth and the space monkey survived the journey. However, video of the animal astronaut being welcomed home appears to show he’d lost a distinctive mole and tufts of white hair had turned brown. That’s fuelled further speculation that the capsule never returned to Earth – or that it did but the monkey did not survive.
